No, we are not talking about running the treadmill, we are talking about much less physically-intensive but extremely important exercises to help you meet your business goals.
#1 “Where is my business right now?”
Not your address. Write down where your business is in terms of processes, systems, staff, utilized technology, results, numbers, projections, etc. Be as thorough as possible with this. While describing each aspect of the current “whereabouts” of your business, make notes whenever you think of ways to improve them. This will help in setting better and more realistic goals, as well as in estimating the rate of development that your business has.
#2 “Where is my business going?”
All businesses are going in different directions. It falls on you to decide where you want to take yours. Even if you set the basic goal to “make more money,” you should still develop it further and make it more number-specific. Your goal could be % increase in sales, number of customers served, branches opened, new products launched, you name it. Whatever it is, be as specific as possible and write down realistic plans for the future (e.g. for 1 year, 5 years, 10 years). Revisit those plans every 6 months to track how your goals change and at what rate you are achieving them.
#3 “How will my business get there?”
We hate to break it to you, but simply writing down what you are planning on doing is not enough to actually make it happen. You have to devise a plan of action with stages and milestones. Do you need to attract more clients? Then setting new digital marketing goals is the key. Do you want to increase the number of repeat customers you have? The solution might be making changes to your product or service and the deals you offer. Don’t be afraid to ask the questions you don’t really want to answer. They are usually the ones that decide everything.
These may sound pretty simple but they are far from easy to do. So, put your sweat pants on and let’s get exercising!
